Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a multisystem disease requiring a multidisciplinary and holistic approach

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a public health problem worldwide. This narrative Review provides an overview of the current literature to support notion that NAFLD multisystem disease. Convincing evidence shows strong association between and risk developing multiple extrahepatic complications such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular (ie, predominant cause mortality in people with NAFLD), chronic kidney disease, some types malignancies. The magnitude this parallels severity (especially stage fibrosis). There are probably underlying mechanisms by which might increase complications. Addressing growing burden will require setting up multidisciplinary working group framework progress embrace novel collaborative ways deliver holistic, person-centred care management NAFLD.
